| May 27, 2010 | Global Artist Agency offers special rates to new members BURBANK, Calif. - "Rough financial times shouldn't force previously discovered, and yet to be discovered, talent to retreat into the shadows of 'wait-ing'. Instead, they should be able to keep their dreams of success alive," declared Mr. Epstein John Epstein, co-founder of GAA. "People with talent deserve representation. We care about all clients, not just a few big money makers. Here at GAA, it's all about the artist, which is the way it should be," says. Talent now has legitimate, bonded global representation available to them. It's our responsibility to the entertainment community in these stressful times to support the artist." Mr. Epstein John Epstein continued. For a limited, potential clients of Global Artist Agency can take advantage of significant discounts on client/membership. This special offer is extended to students, recent graduates, or anyone with personal financial restrictions. Client/membership with GAA is normally $275 per year with a commission rate of only three percent for each working job, as compared with the 10-25 percent that traditional agencies or managers charge. GAA client/members can select from several different payment options that break down into low monthly installments. No talented artist can claim they do not have proper licensed representation in there corner due to economics. GAA sets a new standard by not restrict talent from being represented with a legitimate, globally present agency. Prospective GAA clients may sign up free of any charges (without GAA international ground-breaking Client/Membership platform). Instead of a 3 percent charge though the standard 10 percent commission rate for each working job will apply. As a frontrunner in online agencies, Global Artist Agency takes advantage of modern technology to provide clients with traditional, and virtual, possibilities. GAA is changing the way talent is discovered! John Epstein, left, and Joshua Smith, right, co-presidents of Global Artist Agency at their Burbank office. (Raul Roa/Leader) By Michael J. Arvizu - Burbank Leader Global Artist Agency in Burbank has been licensed for only three weeks, but co-Presidents Joshua S. Smith and John Epstein hope their new business will change the way artists, musicians, writers and producers are represented in the entertainment industry. Their website, www.globalartistagency.com, allows users to upload their work directly onto the site, creating automatic representation for anyone seeking a job in the entertainment industry, Smith said. Once on the site, a user's work is immediately displayed for any potential studio to consider using - a sort of Monster.com, where job seekers are automatically connected to employers and vice-versa. Recently, the agency launched two new portals for actors and musicians, adding to the sections for technicians and video game authors. The idea for Global Artist Agency began as an unplanned meeting in a cafe between Smith and Epstein on the banks of the Nile River in Luxor, Egypt. The conversation mostly revolved around the level and quality of representation of the industry's talent. Both men, who have backgrounds in the entertainment industry and Web design, discussed the Internet's underutilization. The two men tout theirs as being the only agency of its kind to represent clients on an online platform and as a brick-and-mortar agency. "That does not mean that there is not all the facilities and all the attributes of your standard, old-fashioned, dinosaur agency," Smith said. Users are charged a yearly $275 fee that covers the cost of maintaining the site, storage and general overhead. With a membership, Smith said, users are charged a 3% commission of whatever money is made off their work. Agencies usually charge up to 35% for the same work, Smith said. The online platform allows the agency to represent artists from India to Indiana, Smith said. "You can't come and wait on tables in Beverly Hills and hope to get discovered," said Smith, adding that the recent economic downturn has made it especially difficult for new talent to get jobs in the industry. The ultimate goal is to bring in talent that otherwise might be overlooked, or "lost in the industry" by not judging a person's work or measuring the quality of a work as a criteria for representation, Smith said. "What sets [Global Artist Agency] apart is that it exists to service the writer," said client Burt Prelutsky, who has worked as a writer on "M*A*S*H" and "Diagnosis Murder." "Other agencies service themselves. They [other agencies] exist so that the agents can have lunch with each other and bad-mouth their clients, who probably have it coming because they willingly fork over 10% of their money to a bunch of creeps who do next to nothing to earn it."
